Removable partial dentures remain a valuable treatment option in contemporary prosthodontics, particularly when fixed implant rehabilitation is limited by anatomical, financial, or clinical factors. The addition of strategically placed implants can dramatically improve the support, stability, retention, and overall patient experience of distal extension RPDs.

This lecture explores the principles and clinical applications of implant-assisted removable partial dentures (IARPDs), with a focus on treatment planning, implant positioning, prosthesis design, and attachment selection. Through practical clinical cases, participants will see how combining implants with removable prostheses can offer predictable, cost-effective, and highly rewarding treatment outcomes in everyday practice. 

This lecture will be led by Dr Hossam El-Haddad, from Melbourne.

Dr Hossam El-Haddad graduated from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, in 2006. After gaining experience in both public and private practice, he relocated to Australia in 2010 to pursue advanced training.

He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2015 and completed his Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics at the University of Melbourne in 2018. His doctoral research explored the use of novel CAD-CAM materials in full-arch implant dentistry and was published in the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants.

Hossam currently practises at specialist clinics in Moonee Ponds and Melbourne CBD. He remains actively engaged in academia as a lecturer and clinical supervisor at the University of Melbourne's dental school, where he also coordinates the implant component of the DDS program. In partnership with Melbourne University and the International Team for Implantology (ITI), he delivers continuing professional development programs for general practitioners on prosthodontic topics.

He is a Fellow of the ITI, a member of the Australian Dental Association and the Australian Osseointegration Society, a reviewer for the Australian Dental Journal, and a committee member of the Australian Prosthodontic Society.
