Is the Dogma of Using the Largest Diameter still Valid?
The lecture gives an overview of the existing evidence on the use of narrow-diameter implants for a well-defined range of indications based on the proceedings of the 5th ITI Consensus Conference. Prof. Al-Nawas discusses the technical complications of reducing implant diameter in the molar region and the different fracture types that may result. He also presents studies on narrow-diameter implants fabricated from titanium-zirconium alloy and makes an argument for future comparative studies on bone augmentation vs narrow-diameter implants. In addition, future potential indications are discussed.
